March Reading Recap

March Reading Recap

| all the books I read in March |

Hello, Sweet Friend!

Happy April! How was your March? What was your favorite March read?

Today is a reading recap where I share all the books I read in March, their star rating, clean rating, and the book review I did for them! I read 10 books this month and found some new favorite books! I’ve started really wanting to write more book reviews and so I tried to write a book review for every book I read this month. You can find all these reviews on my Goodreads (because I don’t always want to make graphics to put on the blog because y’all know me. If I do a book review here then I have to make a Pinterest board and go overboard XD). And…I did do a small Pinterest board for each! XD

Now onto the recap! But before we do, a quick letter about today and this weekend.

A Letter About Good Friday

Hello friends! Happy Good Friday! We are only two days away from Easter and celebrating Jesus being alive and raising from the dead! Jesus is ALIVE!!! He has conquered death and set us free! He has saved our lives!!! I am SO thankful for Him!
I hope you all have a blessed Easter! Make sure to remember why we celebrate this day. Easter isn’t about bunnies, chocolate, and Easter eggs (though those are all fun things). Easter is about Jesus, the sacrifice He made, and how He defeated death and saved OUR lives. This is the day of our salvation, the day we remember all God has done for us. Today is a day to remember and be thankful. A day to pray and praise God!

BIBLE BOOKS FINISHED

John

I love the gospels! They all are so encouraging and I love reading what Jesus said! The above quote has always been my FAVORITE quote! I always wished (and still wish) to read these books!

Ruth

I LOVE the story of Ruth! It has always been one of my FAVORITE books since I was a little girl! Now, almost an adult, I am working on writing a retelling based on this story.  It’s been such an amazing experience and God has brought SO many Bible stories and scripture into this story! I could not write this without Him and His constant guidance! The outline is almost done and then I will move on to putting the outline into a chapter outline (divide the outline into how many chapters I want to write) and then WRITE this story! I’m SO excited to start writing this story and then to continue this story in the rest of the series (all based on Bible stories)!

FAVORITE FEBRUARY READ (for the first time)

This month I have two books tied as my FAVORITE read of February!

KEY by Madisyn Carlin

Rating: ★★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!! KEY is by far my favorite book of Madisyn’s that I’ve read! I loved this fairytale retelling! It kept just enough of the original Rapunzel story to be familiar but then completely its own story that I had no idea what the ending was going to be. I LOVE this book and highly recommend this whole series!

Don’t forget to check out the whole in depth review! I would keep fangirling about this book here but that would make this post really long, hehe!

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

Rating: ★★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★

This book was a monster to get through with so many EMOTIONS. The review I did was basically an in depth essay on my thoughts and struggles with the book (struggles namely with Mr. Rochester). I don’t think I’ve ever been as conflicted with a character as I have with Mr. Rochester.

Just because this was a journey and a feat of reading all in itself (for me) it has to be one of my top reads of March and the year (though KEY was much more enjoyable. I still love both of them and they both made me cry).

FIVE STAR READS

The Captive Maiden

Rating: ★★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★★.5

I LOVE this Cinderella retelling so much! It is so sweet and the characters are all so amazing and I just love them! This is one of my favorite of Melanie’s books and one of my FAVORITE Cinderella retellings!

For Love and Honor

Rating: ★★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★.5

This is my favorite book in this series! It has the best of the (main three) relationships in this series. I love the banter and the themes in this story! You can definitely read this series out of order as they all are connected by characters but also can be a standalone if you’d like. I feel like I can see Jody become better author with this book (the third in the series) is far better than the first two but those are still enjoyable!

A Daring Sacrifice

Rating: ★★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★

This is the second book in the An Uncertain Choice series. This was really fun and one of my favorite genderswapped Robin Hood retellings (the girl is our Robin Hood). I have read better retellings but this is really fun and has a sweet romance!

A Wrinkle In Time

Rating: ★★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★★

I love this book! My grandpa got this for me years ago and it became one of my favorite stories as a kid! I love Meg’s character and how love saved the day! Calvin is also such a fun character! By far, the book is better than the movie but I did really like the movie (and that the actor who played Calvin also played Peter Pan in the movie Pan (which I love))!

IRON

Rating: ★★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★

This book was amazing!!! This was my first Madisyn Carlin read of March and is so good! I loved this Cinderella retelling and the characters and banter were *chefs kiss*! I highly recommend this entire series because it is amazing and has such beautiful depictions of faith!

Also, side note, this was an incredible reading month with all but one book being 5 star reads! That’s amazing! <3

THREE STAR READ

The Mask Of A Hero

Rating: ★★★

Cleanness: ★★.5

This was a fun action packed superhero read! It’s an indie book and written by a Christian author (not depicted in book)! I loved the side characters and it was a fun read. There were some things that just…didn’t click for me and some book pet peeves that lowered the rating based on personal preference (like an unnecessary character death, telling and not showing, etc). Weirdly with how the book went I ended up rooting for the villain of the story instead of the heroes (odd, I know but he had a good backstory XD).

Other Books I’m Reading But Haven’t Yet Finished

Down The Rabbit Hole

This is my newest psychology book. It is both enjoyable but then it also feels…unprofessional with how the author describes his patients so…I don’t yet know what I think of this book.

Oliver Twist

This is surprisingly depressing and a sad book (I say surprising because I wasn’t expecting chapter one to open with such sad moments and it keeps getting more depressing). My heart breaks for poor little Oliver. I’m hoping it gets happier and that Oliver has a happy ending!

I read a retelling of this years ago and loved it so I’m excited to finally read the original but then I want a happy book! XD

I’m also annotating my physical book (which is fun) and am listening to the audiobook (which is fun because it is British and funny because of the voices for each of the characters). This book is an odd combination of enjoyable and super depressing all at the same time. Did anyone else feel the same while reading this, or is that just me?

Proverbs

I’m almost done with this book in the Bible! I love this book!

The Green Ember by S. D. Smith

Still reading this book for story time! I really like this book and I can’t wait to keep reading it with my siblings!

Pride and Prejudice

I LOVE Pride and Prejudice! This is my third time reading this wonderful book! I love it! I’m also reading this as a part of this month's book club! It’s so fun reading these characters again!
