February Reading Recap
February Reading Recap
| all the books I read in February |
Hello, Sweet Friend!
Happy March! How was your February? Did you read anything fun?
Today is a reading recap where I share all the books I read in February, their star rating, clean rating, and the book review I did for them! I read 9 books this month which is pretty good (though I wish it was a bit more, but oh well). I’ve started really wanting to write more book reviews and so I tried to write a book review for every book I read this month. You can find all these reviews on my Goodreads (because I don’t always want to make graphics to put on the blog because y’all know me. If I do a book review here then I have to make a Pinterest board and go overboard XD). And…I did do a few Pinterest boards but for only a few books (I didn’t go overboard this time…only slightly XD)!
I also did an update on BEHOLD PEACE about the blizzard and blackout I was in (which…is over). Yesterday at 1:24pm the power returned!!! Thank you Jesus!!! I’m so glad the power is back on!
BIBLE BOOKS FINISHED
Ecclesiastes
This was a really good read! I love the Bible! Above I have a favorite verse from Ecclesiastes! I hope you enjoy it!
I’m not entirely sure why but I feel like this is timely for where we are in the world now. There is a time to be silent but also to speak. Recently I feel as though Christians (a lot anyways) have been silent but I think that’s beginning to shift. Christians are starting to speak and I’m very happy about that (as long as we are bold and kind and respectful and be like Jesus and show the The Fruits Of The Spirit).
There is also a time for war and a time for peace. A time to heal. I feel like that’s where I’m at right now. I’m looking for peace and experiencing God’s healing!
FAVORITE FEBRUARY READ (for the first time)
Rating: ★★★★★
Cleanness: ★★★★
No surprise here! I LOVED CROWN!!! CROWN is such a good book and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series (which I just did a cover reveal for the third book in the series KEY)!!!
Don’t forget to check out the review! I would keep fangirling about this book here but that would make this post really long, hehe!
FIVE STAR READS
The Silent Songbird by Melanie Dickerson
Rating: ★★★★★
Cleanness: ★★★★
This one is so good (my second favorite book of February)! I love Evangelin’s character! This is my favorite little Mermaid retelling! It’s so good and sweet! I also read this as a part of February’s book prompt!
Also, I feel like this actress (I can’t recall her name) is perfectly Eva! Especially the picture with the book! It just looks like Eva to me! <3
The Wizard Of Oz by L. Frank Baum
Rating: ★★★★★
Cleanness: ★★★★
This was my family’s read aloud book! After reading this myself, I had to share it with my family! We just finished it two (?) weeks ago and loved it! I highly recommend it if you want a family friendly book for read aloud time!
Rating: ★★★★★
Cleanness: ★★★★★
This is so sweet! It’s the second book in the Love Comes Softly series! I loved it and it was so sweet seeing the kids grow up!
Rating: ★★★★★
Cleanness: ★★★★★
In this book (the third in the Love Comes Softly series) we see Missie (the daughter of Marty and Clark) get married and leave home and settle with her husband out in the West.
Short Straw Bride by Karen Witemeyer
Rating: ★★★★★
Cleanness: ★★★.5
This was adorable! If you love cute country romances & the marriage of convenience trope (similar to the first Love Comes Softly book), then you’ll love this book!
FOUR STAR READ
Rating: ★★★★
Cleanness: ★★★.5
This was sweet and simple (I read this in the power outage) and I really enjoyed it. If you love medieval romances, knights, and damsels in distress then this is your kind of book! I will say that this is basically identical in story (except this is like a clean bachelorette) to The Captive Maiden by Melanie Dickerson. The Captive Maiden is far superior to this in story and if I had to recommend only one then The Captive Maiden would win.
TWO STAR READ
The Darkest Minds by Alexandria Bracken
Rating: ★★
Cleanness: ★
DO NOT READ THIS BOOK unless of course you want to but then please read my clean guide first (the only reason why I even did a book review). This is the lowest I’ve ever clean rated a book and it was all *mostly* for bad language. So…I say don’t read this (instead watch the movie if you like—I watched it with my siblings and we loved it).
Other Books I’m Reading But Haven’t Yet Finished
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
Loving and hating this book simultaneously right now (just as I start loving it something comes up that makes me not like it XD). I definitely will have a lot to say once I finish this book (I already have a lot to say but I don’t want to go into it right now. Just know that there will probably be a special book review once I finish because this is a monster of a book *for me personally *).
The Nocturnal Brain by Dr. Guy Leschziner
I’m studying psychology and this is the book I’m reading now! It’s actually really fascinating and I look forward to continuing reading!
Esther
I’m loving this book! I’m currently reading it as I am working on our Bible study at behold peace!
John
I’m almost done with this book in the Bible! I love reading the gospels and I’m finding both a lot of encouragement and inspiration for a story I’m currently outlining (which you will get updates on when you subscribe to my newsletter)!!
The Green Ember by S. D. Smith
We just started this book for out read aloud story time! I’m also reading this as a part of March’s book club (this month is reading aloud a book (this one) to our siblings or kids we know)! It’s really good so far!
BEHOLD PEACE Update:
The first Bible study in BEHOLD PEACE is on Esther! Esther Chapter FOUR, the third post in the Esther Study (Chosen, Favored, & Planned by God), is now published and ready to read!
I’m so excited to be starting this Bible study with you! I hope you check it out! Make sure to come back to BEHOLD PEACE this Monday because we will be reading and discussing Esther chapter 5 (and possibly 6)!!!
