April Reading Recap & What I’m Looking Forward To In May

Happy May! How was your April? What was your favorite April read? 

Today is a reading recap where I share all the books I read in April, their star rating, clean rating, and the book review I did for them! I read 6 books last month which isn't a ton (which is expected as I’m writing a book and I usually read less in that time) but I found a new favorite book and read an old favorite which was really fun! I’ve started really wanting to write more book reviews and so I tried to write a book review for every book I read this month. You can find all these reviews on my Goodreads! 

Now onto the recap! AND after the recap I’ll have some fun May news! 

 

BIBLE BOOKS FINISHED 

Esther  

In April we FINISHED our first Behold Peace Bible study! It was so amazing and I absolutely LOVED reading and studying Esther with you! 

Joshua 

I LOVE this book! It’s so good! I started it out as part Bible study research, part Sweet Ever After research, and then just to read it. I love seeing God’s faithfulness through this story and seeing how he fights our battles and all the ways he shows up. I wrote down so many notes while reading. 

One of the things that really stood out to me was how God fulfills his promises. Maybe you are in a waiting period like the Israelites (they had to wait 40 years before they could see God’s promise fulfilled) but just because you are in a waiting time doesn’t mean it won’t happen. God does not go back on his word, He will fulfill what He spoke. Trust in Him. Trust He will fulfill His promises even if they time to happen. God does not forget, He will not forget His promises to you. Just wait patiently and trust in Him. 

“Not one of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel has failed, all came to pass.” —Joshua 21:43 

 

FAVORITE FEBRUARY READ (for the first time) 

Clarion Hope by Laurel Lumman 

Rating: ★★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★★★

I don’t have enough words to describe how much I love this beautiful book! This book is just SO SO beautiful and moving. From the prologue to the end, my eyes were watering and I felt so many times close to tears (in the best kind of way).

This book is so beautiful and emotional. It's real, raw, and vulnerable. It continually points back to God. It actually reminds me of the Psalms. A book that isn't trying to be “poetic” but is about faith. It is about struggles and loss. It’s a reminder of God’s love and faithfulness. It’s a warrior's call to faith and boldness. It’s so many things and I love it!

ALL THE OTHER BOOKS I READ 

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen 

Rating: ★★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★★

I LOVE Pride and Prejudice! It’s such a good book and classic! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND reading this wonderful book! 

The Blood Race by K. A. Emmons 

Rating: ★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★

This was actually surprisingly good! I love Kate and her sister Abbie’s podcast (The Kate & Abbie Show)! They give such good advice and after reading and loving Abbie’s books, I had to read Kate’s! I’m very glad I did because it was a really enjoyable story and the magic & detention was so cool! There is some back language in this book hence the lower rating. Otherwise this was really good! 

The Nocturnal Brain 

Rating: ★★★★

Cleanness: ★★★

This was a really good psychology book about sleep. It’s super interesting and I really liked the author. Highly recommend it if you are interested in how the brain works and sleep (though be warned that there is some language near the end and some take of…inappropriate things but those chapters are easy to skip (as I did)). 

Things I’m Excited For In May 

Some big and fun things are coming up this month that I’m SO EXCITED for! 

First, next week I’m going to have a new Writing  Masterclass for you all! I’ll be giving my TOP TIPS & REMINDERS for writing the CLIMAX of your story! I’m very excited to have this Masterclass ready and up for you! I’m thinking of having a new Masterclass every other week! That way I can keep giving you all high quality posts in a reasonable amount of time (I was planning on having a Masterclass up today but there were some things that just weren’t ready and I feel like a Masterclass every other week sounds good so that's what I’m going with)! 

Next, I have some books on my tbr I’m really excited to start reading! They are also a part of a challenge I’m doing with myself to try and finish them BEFORE I graduate *fingers crossed I make it*.

Third…I’M GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL!!! EEK! Oh I’m so excited the time is finally here! I’ll be an official graduate on the 25th!!!! That is so crazy to think! I’ve been waiting for this moment for THIRTEEN YEARS! Seriously, since kindergarten I've been counting down the years till I can be DONE with school! XD It really has been amazing and I want to do a whole post about graduating and everything soon (including another Q&A post at some point this month)! 

Fifth, well maybe I should have had this first, the Fable Rose Newsletter turns ONE TOMORROW! WHAT? I cannot believe it's been a year since I've been sending y’all emails! That’s so cool! To celebrate I’m redesigning the emails so they will look a bit different and have more graphics and fun stuff in them (if there is any bonus content, questions you have, or celebratory something you’d like me to do, just let me know)! 

I think that’s it! Who knows, i'll probably think of something more later but these are the immediate things happening that I’m excited for!
