Why should we read the Bible everyday?

why should we read the Bible everyday? Is reading the Bible important? Why should Christians read the Bible? How do we have Bible translations (the martyrs of faith)?

Why is it important as Christians to read the Bible?

Why Should We Read The Bible Everyday?

Hello friend! Welcome to my blog! My name is Moriyah and I am a Christian, writer, podcaster, blogger and the host of this Bible challenge.

Things have not gone as I’ve planned with this challenge but that’s okay! This is a learning experience. Besides, the challenge, the heart of the challenge anyways, was not to just “read the Bible in 30 days”. It was also to GET AS MUCH OF GOD’S WORD AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN INTO YOUR MIND HEART AND MIND. That is the important bit. Not finishing in 30 days but getting closer to God.

Keep your eyes and priorities focused straight on God. If that means reading 40 chapters a day then do that. If that’s reading 20 chapters a day then do it! If it’s doing 10 chapters then do it! It’s not the number that matters (though I still believe it is good to read a few chapters at a time so that you can really see the whole story play out together. The Bible is a big story and it has stories within stories. The best way to see the whole story is by reading it and more than just a chapter or verse a day which is today's topic). The point of this challenge is getting closer to God and reading His word!

The Word Of God is the “Bread Of Life” & Why It's Important to Read the Bible EVERYDAY

Why is it important to read the Bible every day?

Let me ask you a question: why is it important to eat and drink water every day? We need to eat and drink everyday so we don’t die. Literally.

Let me ask you another question: what if you only ever ate one bite of food and one sip of water a day? You would be VERY unhealthy, SIGNIFICANTLY malnourished, and would risk death (or you would die).

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Jesus is the “bread  and water of life.”

John 6:35

“And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”

John 7:37-39

“Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.  He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”

As we have established before, you get to know God and have a relationship with Jesus through the Bible.

Jesus Himself said that…

Matthew 4:4

“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

If the Word of God truly is the bread of life then we need to “eat” the word of God (by reading it) every day. You need good food and water everyday to survive and to be healthy. The same is with the Bible. You need it EVERYDAY to be healthy (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, relationship wise (just in all the things)).

This is more than just a verse a day kind of thing. Yes, you can totally read only a verse a day and if that’s truly all the time you have then that is better than nothing. If you “eat” none of God’s word then you sort of put your body into spiritual starvation and a spiritual death.

Still…thinking back to the previous example, reading one verse a day is like eating one bite of food a day and calling it good. It is better than having nothing but how long can you survive with only a bite a day? You won’t be fully living. You won’t be thriving. You won’t be living out your life to the fullest of what God made you to be and do.

We need more than just a verse a day. Yes, if that truly is all you can get then do that but you then need to find a way to get God’s word into you MORE. Make God’s Word a priority in your life. Say no to things like social media and tv for a time. Wake up early if you must. Listen to the Bible on audiobooks (you can listen for free on Libby with your library card or on the ESV website or app). Find a way to get Him into your life. You by doing this are making time for the Creator of the universe and of all creation and the creator and savior of you.

If we lived in a kingdom with a king and he saved your life, his son sacrificed his life to save you, and the king has adopted you as his child…wouldn’t you make time for him? The same is with God.

Just think, if the Bible is truly the bread of life then we need to have it every day. Thinking about the food analogy, you can eat a bite of food everyday as the only thing you eat and you would probably survive though you would be starving, malnourished and slowly dying. It’s a bit like that with a verse a day. Is it better than having no food (no Bible reading)? Yes. Is it healthy? Not in the long run spread out over days, months and years. Then it is hurtful to your body and you will not be healthy.

If you want to be a healthy Christian then you need to get into God’s Word daily more than just a verse. To be healthy, you need to be eating well (a meal or multiple meals) everyday. It’s the same with the Bible. We should be reading it and ingesting it more than just a verse a day. We need to feast on God’s word. Know His word. Have it truly written in our hearts.

Hebrews 8:10 also the same in Jeremiah 31:33

“I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

Is it okay if you forget sometimes or once in a while have to only read a verse? Yes, I think it’s okay but not over long stretches of time.

Also, when you get into God’s Word more you begin to crave it and need it. This is my heart in doing this challenge however that looks to you! By doing this challenge we are jump starting this inside of all of us. It’s the daily practice of getting close to God!

Give yourself grace. If you can’t do the 30 day challenge then don’t. It’s more important to be reading God’s word and getting closer to Him no matter how many chapters that is! For me, doing about 40 a day was too much for me to do also dealing with vision problems. So now I’m changing focus and am just reading as much as I’m able to every day. I’m still wanting to get at least 10 chapters in a day but I’m challenging myself to go at my own pace and not stress (because I was stressing a lot). That’s not the point of the challenge. The point is getting close to God! That’s what I invite you to do today!

The Lord  bless you and keep you;

The Lord  make His face shine upon you,

And be gracious to you;

The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,

And give you peace.

—Numbers 6:24-26

Love,

Moriyah
