| A bookish review |
Hello, Sweet Friend!
Today I am sharing my book review of Anne Of Avonlea by L. M. Montgomery!!! I love this book! Its so cute and a perfect sequel to Anne Of Green Gables!
I love the characters and everything about this book! It's so sweet and aesthetic! I think this is the perfect book to read in the spring and autumn time! This is such a sweet book and I highly recommend reading!
Now to the review!
“I’d like to add some beauty to life,” said Anne dreamily. “I don’t exactly want to make people know more…though I know that is the noblest ambition…but I’d love to make them have a pleasanter time because of me…to have some little joy or happy thought that would never have existed if I hadn’t been born.”
“I think you are fulfilling that ambition every day,” said Gilbert admiringly.

This is such a sweet book! I LOVE Anne and it is so fun seeing her growing up and being a teacher!
Something I love about these books (the first two at least) is that you really get to see Anne grow up and mature. You see her grow, make mistakes, find friends, and grow up. She is still Anne but now a more grown up Anne. I absolutely love that part of the book, you never lose Anne, only you see her grow.
All the descriptions are *chefs kiss*! They are SO BEAUTIFUL and immersive! You see all the details, smell all the smells, and feel all the feels. It's such a delicious book (XD)!
I love the twins! They are so funny and cute! Davy is most definitely my favorite of the two (sorry Dora)! He is so mischievous and cute and just adorable. I love that he kinda has a crush on Anne the whole book and is always trying to please her while still being a troublemaker. I love that Marilla basically adopts the two of them like she did with Anne all those years ago.
Paul Irving is precious! I love how serious he is but then all that he imagines, so like Anne. I love his stories and the way he thinks. The rock people all sound so wonderful with their own personalities.
I would absolutely love to go to tea at Miss Lavender Lewis’s house at Echo Lodge. She is so fun with her imagination and I’m so glad she had a happy ending and that her ‘Prince Charming’ finally found his way back so they could all live happily ever after.
I love Anne and Gilbert Blythe together! Though they are not ‘together’ in this book I LOVE seeing their growth from the first book! They are the ultimate enemies-to-friends-to-lovers story and I cannot wait to read the next book to see where their story goes. I love how in book one, Gilbert had a crush on Anne but they became enemies (because “carrots”) and Anne utterly despised him. At the end of Anne Of Green Gables they were able to make up and become friends. In Anne Of Avonlea we see their friendship grow and Gilbert still has a crush on Anne. The last two chapters are so good because we see the moment Anne starts to see Gilbert as more than a friend but only for a moment before it goes away (still, I was squealing SO MUCH and I couldn’t contain my excitement)!
All in all, I loved this book! It's the perfect continuation of Anne Of Green Gables and I cannot wait to read the next book with Anne going off to college!
Some Quotes I Love:
“…when she wandered into the realm of fancy she must go alone.”
“Gilbert and Anne looked at each other and smiled rather foolishly.”
“With that quick interchange of smiles Anne and Paul were ast friends for ever before a word passed between them.”
“The day went by like a dream.”
“Ask me that a month later and I may be able to tell you. I can’t now…I don’t know myself…I’m too near it.”
“Why there are so many bright sides, Miss Andrews. It’s really a beautiful world.”
“Have you ever noticed,” asked Anne reflectively, “that when people say it is their duty to tell you a certain thing you may prepare for something disagreeable? Why is it that they never seem to think it a duty to tell you the present things they hear about you?”
“Anne Shirley, you’re only pretending to be grown up. I believe when you’re alone you’re just as much a little girl you ever were.”
“There are so many unpleasant things in the world already that there is no use of imagining any more.”
“Think of it that, teacher, I’ve been to the sunset. And what do you suppose it is? The sunset is a land all flowers, like a great garden, and the clouds are beds of flowers.”
“I’m so thankful for friendship. It beautifies life so much.”
“I think the evening star is a lighthouse on the land where the fairies dwell.”
“She looks just as music sounds.”
“And then I met you. You don’t know what your friendship means to meant to me. I want to thank you here and now, dear, for the warm and true affection you’ve always given me.”
“Oh, it’s delightful to be living in a story-book.”
“I want to learn to understand and help other people and myself.”
“…love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship, as a golden-hearted rose slipping from its green sheath.”
*Cleanness: This is a super clean book! I highly recommend it!
There is some romance with talk of lost loves, getting married, etc. Nothing bad and all sweet! There is talk of a man drinking, smoking, and a man taking a bribe. There is a moment when Anne falls and gets a lot of splinters in her (that part I felt all in my arms and I was just cringing (I hate impalement too even if it's only a splinter—it's my fear so I thought I’d include it here XD).
