Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price—A Bookish Review
Book Love | Book Review
Hello, my friend!
Today I am going to be sharing with you a book review on Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price, a retelling of the beloved Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
This book combines Pride and Prejudice, mystery, and British crime all in one book!
So without further adieu on to the book review!
Summery
Set in London, Lizzy Bennet is different from any other girl. Smart and witty, she has a passion for solving crimes. Her greatest wish is to work with her father at his law firm Longburn & Sons.
When a scandalous murder takes place and Mr. Bingley is placed as the prime suspect, Lizzy takes it on herself to solve this case, prove Bingley innocent, find the true culprit of this hideous crime, and prove herself capable in a field where only men are allowed to work.
Unfortunately for her, Mr. Bingley already has a lawyer, his best friend Mr. Darcy of Pemberley & Associates. Instantly these two are at odds but that doesn’t stop Lizzy from taking on the case.
As she searches for the real criminal, she finds this case is more complicated than she ever could have guessed. At the same time, she finds her attention captured by Mr. Wickhem, all her credit taken by Mr. Collins, and her feelings changing to a certain Darcy.
Will Lizzy solve the crime, or will she become the next victim of this crime?
My Thoughts (the review)
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cleanness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a really enjoyable read. If you like British mysteries and Jane Austen, this is the perfect book for you!
The text was easy to read and I loved the setting in London. I love England, so this felt like the perfect book to read, especially in the autumn.
I am a big fan of mysteries, one of my favorite things to do is watch mysteries with my parents, and British drama with my mom!
I loved Lizzy’s character. I love her drive and how she stays persistent in finding the truth and solving the case without being completely annoying.
I do feel like the author had her own vendettas against some of the characters (Mr. Wickham and Mr. Collins), based on how she wrote them, specifically their endings.
My one problem with this book is Darcy. I felt just a bit rushed with his character arc and I felt like I missed some of his humor, awkward moments (with Lizzy), and broodiness that was a part of his character in Pride and Prejudice. This is completely my opinion. I just wish the timeline of the book was extended a few days or weeks, which would have helped with the character arc pacing.
Pride and Prejudice took place over the course of about a year while this book takes place in about a week. This isn’t a big thing to nit-pick over, but it's my thoughts (also why I took it down a star).
Otherwise, I think this is a really fun book and I did really enjoy getting to read this as a buddy read with a new Instagram and blogger friend https://camrynrosechaos.blogspot.com.
