What I’m Working On In June —I’m Writing A New Book!
Writing | My Story | My Faith
Hello, my friend!
Happy summer! Comment below and tell me how YOUR summer is going?
Exciting update. Last week I told you that I had some exciting news to share with you. Here is the update. I AM WRITING A NEW BOOK! That's right! For the month of June, I will be challenging myself to write an all-new book (in 30 days)! I did a similar challenge last November when I wrote my first ever book. I’m making up a similar challenge right now for myself and I am SO PUMPED UP!
I am SOOO excited to write this new book! It is summer in a book. That is the vibe I’m going with this time.
This book has a different vibe than my first book and the other books I have outlined. The first book I wrote was a fantasy set in a war so I had cooler darker themes running through it. I tend to think in color when describing book feelings because I am an artist and for years have been learning about art, color composition, and how colors (for me) can be associated with emotions.
Question: does anyone else associate emotions with color? Red = angry. Yellow = happy. Pink = love. Blue = sad. Black = mysterious.
My previous works have been more blue and black in design (think covers because you can tell what kind of book it is by the colors of the cover). This book is going to be a yellow sunshine summer explosion! Think happiness and beach days and summer vibes.
So I’m not going to tell you the book name because it is a WIP and it is not ready to be published (but fingers crossed it will be one day). What I can tell you is the genre, some of the inspiration for the story, and the short title.
The genre is a YA Christian contemporary coming of age romance. The romance is a small part of the story (more like a sub-story but it fits into the genre). It’s funny because this is very different from all my other story ideas and even the books I read.
I love this book so much and I know these characters and they matter so much to me (check out The 4 keys to creating powerful addictive characters who feel real!).
I got the idea for this book last month and the story took hold of me. Soon after getting the idea, I did all my outlining which came together extremely fast, and then I decided to write it this month.
As I was writing down ideas for blog posts, one of the things I wrote caught my attention. I wrote down: BODY IMAGE. This has been something I struggled with for a long time. I think a lot of people deal with bad body image but I think especially girls, who then go to the extreme of starving themselves or overeating or a numerous amount of problems (mine was semi starving). It took a lot of years before I was able to feel comfortable in my own skin again. I have gotten much better and feel comfortable in myself and with who I am. I still struggle but I have been on a journey of getting back to myself. I am going to be doing a post about this soon.
As I was thinking about my health journey and everything I went through and knowing this is a valuable topic for this day and age, I had the thought "this would be an amazing story. What if I made a story about this?” My mind went wild. I knew I wanted something set in summer (I’m feeling all the summer vibes). The place where I had a breakthrough with my health and started thinking about myself more positively was Hawaii. LIGHTBULB! Where is more summer than in Hawaii? And thus very fast, all the ideas fell into place.
Now onto the short title, so this is only half of the real title but it is still exciting. Drum roll, please.
A HAWAIIAN SUMMER
Eeep!!!!!!!
So this June I will be working on writing this beautiful summer book! I'm so happy!
