The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket

Hello lovelies! Welcome to the blog! I am so excited to have you here! Today I’m sharing my review of the first book in A Series of Unfortunate Events. I started reading these books in middle school but never made it past the fourth book. I’ve enjoyed watching the movie and tv show and am hoping I’ll like these books just as much as I liked those.

What Is The Book About?

Dear Reader,

I'm sorry to say that the book you are holding in your hands is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three very unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe. From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news, continuing on through the entire story, disaster lurks at their heels. One might say they are magnets for misfortune.

In this short book alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, and cold porridge for breakfast.

It is my sad duty to write down these unpleasant tales, but there is nothing stopping you from putting this book down at once and reading something happy, if you prefer that sort of thing.

With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

Rereading A Series of Unfortunate Events. I actually never finished reading this series but I’m liking going back to these stories and hopefully I’ll finish them this time around.

This series is perfectly titled as this is a story of unfortunate events happening to three orphaned siblings. It is heartbreaking all the terrible things that happen to the children.

I do love Lemony Snicket’s writing! It has such character and instantly pulls you in. I love how he even explains words and it works for the story. Such a good writing style!

I listened to the full cast audiobook which was really fun to hear all the characters voices. The only downside was the music and background noises were somewhat distracting from the story. Otherwise, this was a really enjoyable read…though enjoyable may not be the best word to describe this story, lol.

Content: the story follows three siblings after their parents die in a fire and lose everything. A series of unfortunate events follow them. They are put into the care of an abusive disgusting despicable man who is trying to take their fortune. He harms the children and puts them in danger. SPOILER: A marriage between a horrid man and a 14 year old girl is attempted.

Thank You For Reading

Thank you for being here and for being a part of my life! I hope you are all having a wonderful rest of your day! I’ll see you in the next one!

Love, Moriyah
