Update + Health Stuff + YouTube
Hi friend! Welcome to the blog! So last week I took a break from posting and here is why + some updates!
Allergies and a swollen eye
I found out that I have an allergy to almonds.
Last Wednesday I had almond tea (completely forgetting about my allergy—I’ve had mild reactions in the past but nothing serious before) and the next morning woke up with my eye swollen and feeling heavy and bruised. Then I had a reaction to castor oil on my eyes—something I’ve been using to help heal my eyes—which prolonged the swelling and eye irritation. The allergic reaction worsened my eyesight so I couldn’t be on devices or screens long without that irritating my vision even more.
Thankfully, the swelling began to go down on Tuesday and by now it is almost completely back to normal with only slight redness on my left eye (the one that swelled). Since I’ve been having eye difficulties I haven’t been writing. I’ll still probably take a few days off but then I want to jump into writing and editing!
On the bright side I got a lot of rest days and I got to read/listen to some really wonderful books including The Foxling by B.W. Luby and The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis!
Adrenal Fatigue
While all of this has been going on my mom and I have figured out that I may have adrenal fatigue.
We have both been praying a lot lately specifically about health and that God will guide us and give us wisdom in what to do. He has been leading us to different things that have actually been helping! Fist it was with castor oil. I would have never thought that would be prolonging my allergic reaction but one day while praying I felt this nudge to stop using castor oil and with some research found it was an actual problem and now I’m getting better. Then on Thursday (yesterday) my mom was praying and felt like adrenal fatigue is what I’m going through. With researching I’m finding this is true!
It makes a lot of sense with how my body is right now. I am beyond exhausted every single day. All day. Always. There are very few times I’m not tired, have brain fog, or have good enough energy to do things. I can only do so much until I crash which tends to sometimes be weekly. It’s not normal—at least to what I know—for me to be nineteen and feeling this way all the time for YEARS. This may not be the fix but it could be.
I also have hair loss, easily bruised, energy problems, have brain fog, troubled sleep and weight issues (I tend to plateau and no matter how much I work out it doesn’t make a difference). There are just a lot of things that seem to add up to having adrenal fatigue. Even with me having had blood tests and everything looking normal, adrenal fatigue is something you can’t diagnose through blood tests and can be hard to catch. I pray that if I focus on getting healthier and targeting healing my adrenals that I can actually heal.
Edit: After writing this (I usually write things ahead of posting), on Friday morning (today) I decided to do an adrenal fatigue test I found while researching. I don’t know how reputable it is—it’s from this mom blog if you’re interested. I did it and basically it’s an eye test. Our eyes tell us—if this is true—when our body is not working properly and can tell us if we have adrenal fatigue. The test is you go into a dark room with a mirror, a flashlight and a stopwatch (I used my phone). You turn off the lights and after a few seconds you shine the flashlight to the side of your head so that the light falls into one of your eyes (just don’t do it directly). Healthy eyes will have your pupil contract—become smaller—in light and your pupils will expand—become bigger—in the dark. Between 2-3 minutes, if you have adrenal fatigue, your eyes will stop dilating to the light properly. Meaning even with the light going in your eye they will dilate as if your eye is in the dark (your pupil—the black part of your eye—will become bigger. In 1 minute and 13 seconds my eye “failed” the test and stopped properly dilating to the light. So if the test is true then I indeed have adrenal fatigue. Which on further studying could be why I even started having my eye issues in the first place. Weird right?
So I’m doing things to focus on my health specifically with targeting healing my adrenals. What am I doing to help heal my adrenals?
No coffee on weekdays. This is something I have already started doing and from my studies having less coffee as well as sugars is something that can help!
No vegetable oils
Little to no processed foods (I love bread so I don’t know if I’m giving that up yet)
Have berries and pumpkin seeds as snacks (I had this as a pre-workout snack and was so good and actually nourished my body and kept me level during my morning workout (which in the past I can get lightheaded, low blood sugar, etc).
Up my protein intake + make sure to have protein rich breakfasts
Have healthy fats like avocados
Magnesium
Have greens + supplements (this has actually been a game changer in my health specifically with that time of month in being a girl)
Have a gallon of water a day *fingers crossed* or at least have more water than usual
Green tea because it is yummy and one of the top things for helping adrenals (at least in my research)
Hair treatments (not for adrenals but for the hair loss I’ve been having which could be connected to adrenal fatigue)
Take rest days
Read more (something that for me is restful)
Find a new content schedule (so maybe having more things scheduled for rest days, or post less (you may see less posts on the blog but knowing me it is bound to be more), or maybe something to give myself more rest days especially since for the next 75 days I’ll be helping my mom film for her YouTube—this is something I already do but will be more active in this for a challenge she is doing)
A lot of this—I’d say about 80%—I already do and have been doing since last month when I started wanting to focus on my health. Now it’s just a bit bigger and I’m able to focus more on what my body actually needs. I’m praying through this time and praying that God will give me wisdom and guidance in what to do to help my body heal. I’m excited to see what all happens!
Starting up a YouTube channel
I know this is kinda counter intuitive to what I just said in the last part but I also have made some plans to start trying a new kind of content creation. Namely starting up a YouTube channel and making videos! I have no idea how that’s going to work but I want to try experimenting with new things. I’m planning on starting to post in September! As of now I don’t have a posting schedule but just to make content when it’s fun for me. At some point I’ll have a posting schedule but for now I’m going to be a bit more go with the flow. If you’d like to follow along it would mean the world to me if you would subscribe to my channel.
The first video will be answering a question I got from one of YOU! The question is: “What person perspective should a new writer write in?” I hope you like watching this video! Remember that it comes out *fingers crossed* by the end of September! If you have any other topics you’d like me to cover then please comment below or message me! I love making content that helps and supports you!

So long! Farewell!
That’s all for now! I’ll chat with you more soon! Oh, and don’t forget to subscribe to my newsletter because in September’s letters I’ll be sending a little autumn gift for you all!
Love,
Moriyah
