The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
| A bookish review |
Hello, Sweet Friend!
Today I am sharing my book review for one of my all time FAVORITE books: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe! <3
“…it was only the beginning of the adventures in Narnia.”
― C.S. Lewis
Rating: ★★★★★
Cleanness: ★★★★★
This is one of my FAVORITE BOOKS EVER (it’s probably my second favorite)! I always wanted to go to Narnia as a child and was always looking through closets, cupboards, walls, and doors to find Narnia or some magical land like it.
The world is so beautiful and magical. Whenever it’s snowing where I live in the forest, as of this review, I always think it looks like Narnia during winter.
It’s funny, reading this now the story seems so short and small. Smaller than I remember it being. The battle was so short in the book but huge in my memory of first reading this lovely book. I love how Lewis balances a good amount of description to see the story but leaves enough to the imagination. This is perfect for children and then it’s the themes and hidden messages that keep you coming back again and again even when you are older.
My favorite part is the picture of Jesus in Aslan. His sacrifice is so emotional (I still can’t watch that whole sacrifice scene in the movie. I just want to cry) and paints such a picture of Christ and His sacrifice for us. I love this book so much and even the symbolism in the seasons and just everything about this book!
THE CHARACTERS! The characters are all SO GOOD! I love them!
Sweet Lucy! I love her sweetness, curiosity, belief, and innocence in this story. She is such a wonderful character.
I personally always really related to Susan in these early books. How she is more logical, the “mom” of the sibling, has a plan and so forth we’re all things I really relate to.
Peter reminds me so much of one of my little brothers. The take charge, maybe pushes his younger brother a bit, very protective and loyal. I feel like with each of the characters I can see something of me and my siblings which is fun!
I actually really love Edmund! He might be my favorite Pevensie and that’s saying a lot. XD His transformation from…a traitor…to fully trusting and believing Aslan is just SO AMAZING! Chapter thirteen is my favorite chapter in this book (then 16)! I love his moments with Aslan. They are just *chefs kiss*!
“Edmund had got past thinking about himself after all he’d been through and after the talk he’d had that mourning. He just went on looking at Aslan. It didn’t seem to matter what the Witch said.”
The one thing that’s a bit…odd…that I don’t remember is Aslan walking and acting like a human for most of the story. I don’t know why but it was really funny this time reading and seeing the picture of him with the white witch. XD I have the movie Him in my head as the majestic, strong, peaceful, comforting lion. The book him has a bit more comedy which is fun and he is still my comfort character! <3
*Cleanness:
This book is clean! Hurray! If you read my last review on Goodreads then you know what a happy feeling this is to me after my last review. XD
There are some fight scenes and the sacrifice scene with Aslan can be intense/emotional. There are also evil creatures described though they are on the side of evil. That’s something I love about this book. It shows you clearly good from evil!
This is a clean story and I highly recommend reading (this is also PERFECT for read aloud time with young children)!
