The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: a bookish review + aesthetic board!
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Cleanness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️*
I love this book SO MUCH! This is the 5th or 6th time I've read this book, and it has become a comfort book at this point. I know there is a lot of violence (which isn't my favorite), but I still love this book. The characters feel like old friends. <3
I first read this book when I was about 10 (not the age I’d recommend this to but it did make quite an impact on me). Katniss was the first character who felt like ME. When I read her story, the way she acted was me. I never had that before. Katniss inspired me. Now looking back, I've grown up a lot. I'm not that ten-year-old little girl. It's fun because I can still see my younger self in Katniss (especially in this first book). Seeing Katniss is like seeing an old friend. Seeing her is a bit like seeing my old self. I don’t know if that makes sense, but that's me.
PEETA!!! Oh, I love him! He is just the sweetest! I feel like me and Peeta would totally be friends in real life. I’d love to make bread with him and he could give me decorating tips, lol. I love how much Peeta loves Katniss and how protective of her he is. I am forever and always #teamPeeta!
A few months ago, I was making a list of my favorite male characters, and it was no surprise that Peeta made the top! Soon I think I’ll do a blog post about them. (SPOILER: Side note: I don’t know why but somehow I completely forgot (I know, I’ve read this 5-6 but it’s never made an impact till this read (most likely because of the book i’m currently writing)) that Peeta becomes disabled at the end. Somehow my mind slipped over the fact that he lost his leg. I feel bad for not remembering, but then I feel like I love his character even more now. He is my FAVORITE!!! END SPOILER)
Two of my favorite characters (besides Peeta & Katniss) are Rue and Prim! They are both so sweet and precious. I love these two! <3
Prim reminds me of my little sister, so sweet, loving, and patient. Rue is just wonderful. She was there for such a short amount of time but I loved her. (SPOILER: Her death was the hardest to read in this book for me (besides maybe Cato, honestly) END SPOILER).
I could talk about this book forever & ever, but I think I'll leave it at this (for now)!
*Cleanness: LOTS of violence and killing and death (it is the hunger games). Some romance with light kissing scenes. Peeta and Katniss are made to be “star-crossed lovers”. Katniss gets undressed a few times, but she is just changing, and there is nothing bad in this. Katniss talks of how seeing people undressed makes her uncomfortable. Katniss also has a fear of wounds, (another reason why I relate to her. Stabbing and bloody wounds always make me queasy & light-headed).
On all other points this is clean but the violence is high and thus has dropped the cleanness rating.
