The Not Scary Halloween Post (keep it PG)
recommendations + fun activities for the not spooky girl
Boo!
Did I scare you? Lol! Hopefully not!
I am not a “scary” girl. I do not like Halloween all that much. I don’t like scary things (thrillers and suspense though, *claps*). I do not like horror or gore. I don’t do demons (away in the name of Jesus). Scaring poor little children, please don’t (this happened to my sister and it traumatized her). Glorifying what is evil? Oh no! Real witches? NOPE! I already have “witches” who live in the town over from me (California is a crazy place) and I do not want that. I do like Harry Potter because it shows good vs evil. Honestly that could be a whole post on why I read Harry Potter and why I don’t think it’s bad even with me being against witches but that’s a topic for later.
The point is, Halloween is not my thing. There are…aspects I like. I like seeing little kids dressed up as princesses and superheroes. I like making autumn treats to eat. I like old black and white “scary” movies that are PG and safe for the family. I like pumpkins and apple goodies. I like reading a good book that feels like autumn (something I try to do most Halloweens). The sweet stuff I like. Anything leaning towards evil and demonic? I’m out!
So, for fun, I decided to make a Halloween activity guide for the girl (or guy) who doesn’t like the evil scary Halloween but still wants to do something fun on the day!

Movies for Halloween (funny, suspense, no horror)
Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
I wanted this for the first time, last Halloween and it was so fun! It’s funny, sometimes ridiculous with hand drawn animation for special effects. Really enjoyable! There are monsters and characters are attacked. Maybe slightly spooky but it feels like a classic old Hollywood film which is fun.
The Odd Life Of Timothy Green
This is a sweet magical realism story about a boy with leaves growing on his legs. It is sweet and has some incredible autumn vibes and scenery! Highly recommend it! There is also adoption which is my favorite! There is bullying and death and loss in this story.
IF (2024)
This is a really cute story about a girl who gets the ability to see people’s imaginary friends and helps them find their owners!
Harvey (1950)
We started watching Harvy because it was on in the background of IF (2024). It is such a fun movie! It was one of my Grandpa's favorite movies. It has James Stewart in it (It’s A Wonderful Life)! If there is only one movie you watch from this list, do this one!
Cape Fear (1962)
This is a really great black and white suspense. It has mystery and thriller elements. My whole family watched this together. The acting is a bit…dramatic, lol. It does have a villain who r*pes and murders women (including his ex-wife and he tries to harm a young tween/teenager). That’s something to be aware of. If you watch this, let me know if you spot the drawn bush on the screen near the end! Lol! It was so funny!
The Twilight Show
This is so good! This is a black and white tv series about the strange, odd, paranormal and mysterious. My family and I started watching this together and we’ve really enjoyed it so far! I love me some PG movies abd shows (there are some PG-13 episodes but that’s more because there is substance involved).
Autumn Books (with monsters)
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
This is one of my favorite books! This story deals with loss and human nature and suffering in such a beautiful way. The stories the monster tells are all so interesting and insightful. The illustrations are so good! I love this book!
Harry Potter
The Harry Potter books are all so fun! It does increase in darkness and gets into more heavy topics as the series progresses (it feels like the characters are growing up and entering the world). Throughout the series there is this focus theme of light fighting against the darkness and evil in the world! Just so you know, the witch/wizard magic stuff is basically like The Wizard of Oz. So you have the good witches like Glinda and the evil witches like the Wicked Witch of the West.
The Different World by B. W. Luby
This is an AMAZING BOOK! I loved reading this so much! The characters and story are amazing! It has the best autumn vibes and setting! I just did a review for this book so you can check out all my thoughts as well as the clean guide here!
