Waiting on God’s timing in my writing + flash fiction

Hello, sweet friend! 

Today I want to share with you all a piece of flash fiction I wrote this week that I am now thinking of turning into a winter novel! 

After writing this piece of flash fiction, my mind was filled with this story unfolding! I feel like this is a beautiful story with powerful themes I can work with. This might be the story I’ve been looking for since winter came upon my home. 

I’ve been writing different books in different seasons. So far, I’ve written summer and autumn, and I think this might be my winter story! 

This may turn into nothing, but I can’t get this story out of my head! Already I made their character profiles, made a rough outline, made a Pinterest board, and have some side characters figured out. I really think this could potentially be the next story I write. 

I was going to write a fantasy next, but something has been holding me back. I’m realizing in my writing life that if I don’t feel peace from God to start writing a new story, then I can’t write. Even if I have everything figured out, I can't seem to form words enough to start writing. 

A year ago this month, I wrote my first-ever novel. When I did that, I was intentionally praying and trusting in God. He was my writing partner. He gave me the story and the words. A year later and this has not changed. My writing is fully reliant on Him. Until He says, “now it’s time to write”, I don’t write. I may try, but then there is something missing because He is missing. He is my writing partner, and I can’t do this without Him. 

When He is in the story, then that is when I write. 

I may not write this book anytime soon, but I’m feeling an urgency to write the ideas and get things ready. This may not be the next book I write, my fantasy could be next, but this one has a chance at being next. I’m feeling the need to wait on my fantasy, but I haven’t yet felt that need to wait on this story yet. 

I’m still unsure of what will happen next but I know that God will be with me. 

In the beginning, I wanted my writing to be a partnership with Him. I wanted to bring Him glory and honor in my writing. That’s what I prayed for. That’s what I’ve wished for. He has answered that prayer. I wanted Him to be my writing partner, now I can’t write a story without Him. He has kept His end, now I have to wait on Him and trust in His timing. He decides when I write next. 

I can’t wait for His peace to come and tell me, “This is the story. Now write!” 

So without further ado, here is the piece of flash fiction that started this idea…
